Rs.1200-cr. paper board factory to come up at Srirangam


JayalalithaWhile making a series of industrial parks for the Southern districts, which are left behind in the industrial development, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced a Rs. 1,200-crore paper board factory in her Srirangam constituency and three projects for Nagapattinam district at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore.


Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, she said a Multilayer Double Coated Board manufacturing unit would be set up at Montipatti village and the surrounding dry areas covering 989 acres by the Tamil Nadu News Print and Papers Ltd (TNPL). The work for the unit with a capacity of two lakh tone per years will begin this year and will be completed in 2016. A total of 2000 persons will get direct and indirect employment through the industry.


Ms. Jayalalithaa also announced a deep water port, floating storage re-gasification unit and a 500 MW Gas based power plant at the southern coast of Nagapattinam district. The total cost for the three projects is Rs. 3,500 crore.


She said in Sivaganga district an industrial park of 2000 acres would be set up to accommodate a graphite factory and other industries. A 2000 acre industrial park to be set up in Ramanathapuram district will house petroleum refinery, chemical and fertilizer units.


Pudukottai district will have 2000 acre industrial park for engineering industries, metallurgy units and dry skin manufacturing units.


The 1500 acre industrial park at Dindigul district is for food processing and allied industries. In Theni district food processing and allied industries would come up in 2000 acres.


In Virudhunagar, the industrial park will serve the specific purpose of providing infrastructure to firework units. It will also have food processing, engineering and printing units.


The Chief Minister said a 6000 acre industrial park would be created in Tuticorin district to attract ship building and repair units, heavy engineering units, metallurgy and chemical industries.


For the coastal Kanyakumari district, the Chief Minister announced an industrial park in 250 acres to attract marine industries. It will also accommodate rubber industries, engineering industries and tourism industry.


The Chief Minster also announced a series of measures to attract entrepreneurs to set up units in these industrial parks. They will get land at 50 per cent subsidy and the state government payback the money to the SIPCOT.


Besides announcing increase in the capital investment from 1.5 to 2 per cent, the Chief Minister said all infrastructure facilities would be created in the parks.


As regards, VAT-based benefits, the minimum investment would be reduced to Rs. 10 crore from Rs. 50 crore.
