New Delhi, May 23: Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday stated that the group of ministers set up to look at ways to secure more autonomy for the CBI had identified issues that would ensure greater independence for the federal probing agency. Law minister Kapil Sibal told reporters that V Narayanasamy briefed his colleagues on the provisions of the Delhi Police Establishment Act and the Lokpal Bill. The government had set up the Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Chidambaram, after the Supreme Court had reprimanded it over the lack of autonomy to the CBI while hearing the coal scam report which was altered at the behest of the government. CBI Director Ranjit Sinha, who was one of the special invitees to the meeting, did not attend it.
